Cachers love collecting signature items, so I created these “Xangxa Tiles” with collectors in mind. They are a fusion of collector’s cards, beautiful artwork, and puzzle pieces. The concept is explained in more detail at www.CraigGiven.com/xtiles I have most of next week off from work, so I’ll be generously spreading these babies around! In future editions you’ll find tiles made of varying materials (Bristol, wood, metal, etc.) and media (photos, drawings, paintings, engravings, etc.). In my search for a unique signature item, I haven’t seen anything similar in online archives, so I’m optimistic that these are a unique contribution to the game. Do signature items, such as these, appeal to you collectors out there?

Nice idea! I do like signature items, and have a small collection. One of the most unique so far is a Phat.Bak Voodoo Doll I picked up a GeoDog signature item in MD this past weekend, the kids love it. I also have a collection of other odds and ends, wooden nickels, etc. I can't wait to find one of yours in a cache one of these days!

The game is afoot! Toof Fairy and I dropped off several Xangxa Tiles today at GCB0E9, GCK4BP, and GCMQK6. We also tried GCKAQ7 (too small) and GCJGN2 (moved). BE SURE AND VISIT the log for GCMQK6 and see the photo of “Killer” -- the most unusual pet I’ve ever seen on a leash in TN! Here's Toof Fairy planting the very first Xangxa Tile in a cache.

Cachers love collecting signature items, so I created these “Xangxa Tiles” with collectors in mind. They are a fusion of collector’s cards, beautiful artwork, and puzzle pieces. Those are the coolest signature items I have seen! And to think I was going to get 'creative' and make up a signature cache card to leave with my frequent 'pair of AA batteries' or 'mini flashlight'. But you have inspired me to think again about how to develop a sort of useful signature trinket to leave in caches. I'm a "form (ever) follows function" (Louis H. Sullivan) sort of person, so some kind of useful, functional, nifty, and collectible, gadget seems to be in order. I'm not sure yet what that will be, but I'm musing again (which is sometimes dangerous).

We've been busy trying to get all of them deployed. I found 3 caches today, but only one of them was big enough to make a drop. That makes 12 of 60 so far (there were to be 80 but I was trying to talk to my wife at the same time as I was using the cutter and you can guess the rest ) We decided to drop off up to 3 Xangxa Tiles on the harder caches. We thought anyone who survived that hike deserved the reward That's one reason I went into work despite having the day off -- my legs were stiff and the current project requires a bit of walking. That let me get the muscles unkinked, conserve some vacation, and make progress on the current project. But tomorrow I'll definitely work a whole day due to the rainy forcast. So I may not get any tiles deployed tomorrow, but I may get a cache placed (easier to do under cover of rain).

I'm a "form (ever) follows function" (Louis H. Sullivan) sort of person I'm very familiar with FFF and it impacts a lot of my buying decisions -- even my clothes (much to my wife's and daughter's dismay ). I'd buy nothing but cargo pants if the household fashion police would let me. One device I drooled over during my research was the www.VersaLaser.com device. Too bad I can't justify a $10,000.00 toy. Buy it gave me tons of ideas

In a word -- YES! These are majorly cool! Rest assured Team Bear-Cat will be on the trail for these soon! ;D We just started collecting geo-coins recently, and enjoy finding the wooden nickles, signature items, etc too. Gotta start thinking about TBC's signature item-design (in addition to the pawprints!) Thanks for the fun and the pending hunts!

Okay, the tracking system is well fleshed-out now. You can post suggestions and feedback to this thread or email me directly. Players using the system will of course carry more weight, and bug fixes will be the highest priority (cross fingers). Here are the available functions currently:
ACTIONS * I took a tile from a cache * I placed a tile into a cache * I gave a tile to a player REPORTS * Where is Tile... (current location and movement history) * What is in Cache... * Where is Image:Edition... (current location of all tiles in an edition) * Overview of game stats * Most recent activity * Caches with tiles (this may go away since it may get too data intensive, too long to be useful, and provided with better tools elsewhere) Your Profile (e.g., change your password)
Next is the watchlist functions, but I have to place some TerraCaches first, and I told PDOP of GC.com that I try to implement a new feature (enable balloon fields like URL) in my PushPin program for mapping caches in MSST.
I also updated the Xangxa Tile FAQ

Now that I've fulfilled some of my other GC/TC obligations, I've started work on the watchlist functions. Look for menu options to "auto-magically" appear on the menu as the week progresses. ;D

ANNOUNCING FTC PRIZES!
If you collect all the tiles in an image (it can be of mixed editions) you can claim a FTC ( First To Collect) prize. The prize will the framed version of the whole (not in tiles) image. There are currently 3 tile sets in play, and the FTC prizes will be for a limited time -- i.e., until it gets too expensive ;D Email me when you've collected all the tiles in a set and we'll work out the details (meeting, verification, shipping, etc.) The watchlist functions are now available
There are also a few additional reports. Please, please email me if you have any problems (please include detailed error messages or exact sequence of events). Also, active players can suggest features and improvements. Here is the current tracking system menu: - ACTIONS
- I took a tile from a cache
- I placed a tile into a cache
- I gave a tile to a player

"Drumroll..." We now have our first Xangxa tile; picked up one at eclose's GPS 4U Terracache, so we will be putting the tracking system through the paces soon!

A new tweak today: cookies. You can now have the website remember your login so you don't have to keep going through that process each time. NOTE: if you click the LOGOUT link at the top of the xtiles page, then the cookie will be cleared and auto-login will be turned off and manual login will be re-enabled.
Status update for the game (not including TeamBearCat's changes):
2 Images in play 3 Editions in play 60 Tiles in play 40 Tiles in caches Leader: AB4N with 3 tiles

I may be stuck in class all day, all week, bleary eyed from watching 8 hours of PowerPoint presentations on a glaring white board -- but the evenings have been profitable. ;D While visiting some of Atlanta's more famous caches I hit a milestone. The last of the (current) xtiles was deployed this week, so all 60 tiles (3 images) are now in play.
Looks like I'll be busy when I get back in town, creating more tiles for restock. Would you guys like the next set of tiles to be editions of the current images (so it's easier to collect a set)? Or would you prefer a completely new image?
