This is a thread to exchange information on letterbox stamps. (Maybe one day it will have its own section ;D). Share your experiences on carving techniques, tools, supplies, places to buy supplies, or must-visit caches letterboxes you've found in other cities.

Locally, I've found stamp making supplies at Art Creations (on the north side of the street across from Coolidge Park), Hobby Lobby (Hamilton Place, etc.), and P&S Office and School Supply (near East Brainerd exit). Also Michaels Arts & Crafts, Gannon Art Center, and the art store near UTC next to Palmetto & MLK will occasionally have stuff in stock, but P&S seems to have the best stock at the moment.
The wooden blocks for mounting stamps can be found at the Lace Lady at the Chattanooga Choo Choo. She has baskets containing different sizes. If you drop in for a visit, be sure to tell her that Craig Given sent you and that you letterbox. And if she's not busy with a customer, ask to see her son's hand-carved stampings. He's done some really great work!

A new section (like the Terracaching one) is fine with us! Meanwhile, we will comment on a recent trip to NYC/Manhattan. Although we were there on a service/mission trip, we did find some time and energy in the evenings to go 'hunting'. (Saturday 6/4 was National Trails Day and we were in Central Park -- fabulous day but that's a different thread/story!) We logged 8 GCs, 1 TC and 3 LBs in Manhattan. All three of the LBs (Italian For Beginners, Near a Folly, and Metropolitan Museum) were enjoyable hunts, of varying difficulty, but each took less than 2 hours, including subway time! As far as custom stamps, though, that award definitely goes to Metropolitan Museum of Art for detail and beauty in a 2-inch custom stamp!

I've seen some stuff online, and it leaves me scratching my head and asking, how did they do that? I recently started using a narrow scalpel and it's doing a better job than the lino cutters. But I still can't imagine how they get some of those tiny subtle details! It's maddening.

This is actually a reply to the earlier mention of how few LBs there are in this area. Sad but true -- of the 4 listed on LBNA in Hamilton County, 2 have gone lost! But there are others not too far away... have you done Restless Dreams, in NW GA??

According to GSAK the closest LB (unfound) for me is 82 miles away in Cobb county (Stampede! by GaCacheCows GCP84R) I can't find "Restless Dreams" in my GSAK database. Oh wait! It's on LBNA under "Mystery" for Georgia. When I search for it specifically by name I can find it. I was looking on the plain 'ol "Georgia" page.

... have you done Restless Dreams, in NW GA?? Have you done this one? I did the puzzle earlier this week, and wanted confirmation that it's correct. My family would kill me if I drug them out on an all-day trip to the wrong location. There was one clue that could be interpreted a couple of different ways, and could easily sway the solution. I made a mistake the first attempt, and that made me nervous. Unlike some puzzles a mistake doesn't mean a dead-end but rather the wrong answer!
