This may not be the right part of the forum to ask this question, but does anyone have a strategy for getting better signal while under tree cover. We went looking for AB4N's "jungle" cache in Rivermont Park over the weekend, and we could not get within 60 feet because of erratic GPS signal strength. I've used GPS units before, but mostly out on the water, so this issue is new to me. We had the unit set to recieve WAAS signals, but that did not help back in the jungle.
Thanks!

If I've been informed correctly, it's the moisture in the tree leaves that are the biggest contributor to L-band signal degradation (moisure in the troposphere accounts for about 1/2 a percent of DPOP for each satellite). So this weekend the leaves were wet with rain, compounding the problems. An actively amplified external antenna might help, but hunting again under dry conditions might be all that's needed.

Thanks, I'll give it another try when things dry out. That looks to be a fun cache hunt, and it's aggravating to only get 2/3 of the way there!

It is definitely a jungle out there! I had to move it deeper in because the first one got stollen from where it was. I wouldn't mind tagging along if you want. I need to check on everything there anyway. I wouldn't spoil the hunt, but could keep you from getting too far off course if you wanted me to. If so just let me know when and I'll meet you over there, and anyone else that would like to tag along.
