I would like to have a CITO event in the next week or so to show appreciation to TVA for letting us place caches on their properties. Skull Island is where I have in mind because there is a wooded area where the Skull Island cache is hidden. That area has been in the past used by paintballers and there is debris from their war games around the area. I would like to clean this up to help prevent future activites of this kind. There is not too much, and it shouldn't take too long if we can get a few hands to help out.
I have already placed a request wtih TVA for this purpose, and depending on their reply and the weather I will try to get it listed for this next Thursday 1/6/2005 from 3PM until we get it done.
We may even be able to get a dumpster donated by a trash service and taken to the nearby landfill.

I don't think the guidelines specify how far in advanced a listing should be made before an event, but in the past it has generally been 7 days notice. However I think you are correct that 2 weeks notice is soon to be announced as the amount of time required, that is what TG emailed me a few weeks ago after the Christmas party listing. However if we can get it in ASAP I think it would be good, because we are beginning to have some nice weather again and it might not last long. The further we push it away the more likely we are to have cold or wet weather. If the weather does not permit for the day we list it as we can update the listing to postpone it until better weather arrives. I would like to do this ASAP though, so that we have it done before spring when the camping area re-opens. I haven't heard from the contact I made yet regarding this, so it may well have to be pushed back a week anyway. I plan to call about it tomorrow to see what they say. This particular place doesn't have too much trash and won't take more than a couple hours with a few people helping out. We can have more events any time. The more the merrier. You could schedule one for Sweethingyer if you like ;D Don't the event have to be 2 weeks in advance? NOW? My TVA contact will not be back to work until next week, so I guess we'll have to postpone the CITO anyway I really hope some of this warmer weather sticks around a little while.

Due to the holidays it has taken longer than I hoped to work out the details for the Skull Island CITO. However it is just about a go, I just have to clear the date/time with the local campground operator. Hopefully weather will be conducive to the event happening in a couple weeks. I will try to have it listed this next week, and am now looking at January 24 as the date for the event - weather permitting. If it looks like it will be too cold or rainy on that day we will just postpone it for a day that is better, and hope it comes before spring

Thanks for rallying the troops for this GEOSET CITO event, AB4N! We are sorry about missing the Skull Island Cleanup on Thursday. Chip was hammered by the flu this week, and was barely awake though Thursday and Friday, but he is showing some significant signs of life again today. We will definitely plan on participating in the Rock Creek Gorge Clean-Up/Cache In Trash Out Event (GCM9WB) on March 12th! Glad to see this one back on the schedule from the first attempt in November last year

Yes, it was fun, quick event -- many caching hands made light work! Interesting place too; we had never been out that way or gotten that view of Sequoyah...
AB4N, I have the group-photos that were taken there; please advise on the correct IMG-SRC language for this forum and I'll be glad to put them up!

Awesome! If you have uploaded the pictures to the web listing you can just use those to post here. All you need to do is post a message and click the icon that looks like a picture frame. It will create some tags for the image, and all you have to do is replace the letters URL with the link to the picture as it is on gc.com Yes, it was fun, quick event -- many caching hands made light work!
