Geocachers across the South have hosted Alabama cachers on cache run wagon-trains, geocaching events and get-togethers - it's time we reciprocated!
At a time and place yet to be determined (but soon!) geocachers will gather in Birmingham for a BBQ and cache run!
The AGA will host and play tour-guide to geocachers by leading a wagon-train through our area.
For those who have never done one, a wagon-train is one or more group(s) of geocachers in cars - in Chattanooga we started with 11 carloads at noon and still had 5 at 10 p.m., who dash from cache to cache, staying together and communicating by cell phone and radio.
Cache runs have been known to run 24 hours, with cachers coming in and out of the train at their convenience.
Since time is of the essence, Team names are used and the first to find the cache signs the team name; this avoids filling logbooks with 30 or more names, then each team member logs the find online.
Trust me, this is a hoot!
Unlike Cacheville and Cacheanooga we don't have the cache population to do 100 caches a day, but we do have some of the most interesting and innovative hides in the country!
Anyone that's been thinking of hiding a cache is encouraged to get it done before this event!
FRS radio is almost required to keep up with each other and what's going on - I have 3 spares to loan, but they're not terribly expensive and are highly recommended for any geocacher that likes to cache with others!
We'll gather for lunch at Oak Mountain State Park, a cache-rich and lovely park, for a BBQ lunch at noon. Rambler will have all the makings for a BBQ pre-cooked and ready. I will need, therefore, a pretty close count of attendees!
Attending geocachers and volunteer host drivers are encouraged to register your interest at either site.
Please don't post "Wish I could" or "I can't come", it just confuses the picture! If you can't come we'll miss ya!
I will update with an event date asap.
See you there!
