I am changing this post because the first place that I tried to order ammo cans from emailed me a week after I placed the order and said that they would have to charge me $30 for shipping. I can understand higher rates for such a large/heavy package, but waiting a week and expecting the cans any day in the mail and then finding out that they haven't even shipped yet is disappointing. So.... I started searching the internet again and found an even better deal ;D www.cheaperthandirt.com/ has a six pack of 30 cal. ammo cans for only $19.97 and the shipping is only $7.99 guaranteed. You can order up to 100 lbs. without having to pay extra shipping if you order online, so 4 six packs is $79.88 and the shipping only $12.99 with a total order of $92.87 for 24 ammo cans! The shipping weight for that many is 88 lbs. so no extra shipping charges apply.

If you want just a couple ammo boxes at a time... and aren't planning to put out a dozen or two new caches in the next few days ... there are 3 more-or-less local sources that we have found for standard geocaching size ammo boxes at reasonable prices. The Red Bank Army Store, 5613 Dayton Boulevard, Red Bank, Tel. 875-2020 (out north end of town), has various sizes of ammo boxes, starting at under $5 (we've bought a few there). The Brainerd Army Store, 5102 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tel. 899-1248 (near Moore Road), also has various sizes of ammo boxes, and they are more pricey starting at $6-$8 (bought only 1 there). Larry's Army/Navy, Highway US 41 South, Monteagle, Tel. 931-924-2544 (about 1 mile east of Monteagle toward Tracy City), also has various sizes of ammo boxes, starting at $5 (bought a couple there). Larry's is about 40 miles west of Chattanooga, but at only a couple miles off I-24 it is an easy place to find if you are going caching in that direction. Yes, you have to pay TN Sales Tax at these places, but you are also supporting a local business and a neighbor when you shop there! ;D And it goes without saying that all of these places have lots and lots of assorted military surplus stuff and clothing... and even other potential cache containers, and plenty of goodies for geocache trading swag. Happy Caching!
