In one of the areas that I cache in, there is a problem of caches that have been unactive or dis-abled for 6 plus months. On a couple of them I put in request to archive with a question about the status. Needless to say, the response has been mixed. One has deleted the log with a promise to fix by the end of the month. The other sent an e-mail saying that they have not replaced it yet and implying that because I have only one cache hidden, I need to buzz off. Any suggestions?

Usually on a case like this if you tried to archive the disabled cache then thats all I would do. About the bug off message, Just turn the other cheek ;D. Most people would like the info, others just take it the wrong way and get distrot about it. It's always helpful to lending a hand on getting the cache fixed to get it going again.
Hope this helps!

Yeah, those inactive caches kind of bug me after a while too. But I think Hikenit is probably right, there ain't much you can do once you log a "needs archived" note. The GC admins see these notes and are supposed to act on them; at that point it is up to them for whatever needs to be done.

Here is just one humble opinion. I have replaced one cache that belonged to another cacher, and have been the unofficial nurse-maid for a couple of other caches. If any of the "unactive or dis-abled" caches in your area are unique and/or really interesting/fun finds, and you are of a mind to 'give better than you get' to the sport of geocaching, you might consider replacing the cache container and a few goodies and letting the owner know you made the investment in the cache so please make it active again. I also agree with Hikenit and AB4N, that if you have made your best input on what should be done with the disabled cache, and the cache owner and/or geocaching.com approver have not responded positively, then perhaps it is time to 'let it go'. Happy Caching... how'er you choose! James on the Elk River
