In a few short days it will be one year since the cache Pilgrim's Relief was listed. I thought that was long enough and decided to put on the hiking boots, staff, pack, camera, snacks, and most important liquids.
The hike was a little longer than I expected because I took each of the spur trails as well. The total hike was over 10 miles, but it was the best ten miles I have ever traveled.
I took along 2.5 liters of water and 32 oz. of Gatorade. This turned out to be just enough. I also had three bananas, a bag of chips, a handful of granola bars, and a bit of candy. The only thing left in my pack was the empty wrappers and bottles when I got back to the car.
This trail has numerous waterfalls, I only took pictures of a few of them. Some can be viewed from the trail, and others require a short walk on spur trails or rabbit trails.
There is also abundant wild flower, visiting here a month ago would have been especially beautiful. I say a Pink Lady Slipper plant that still had the dried out remnants of the flowers, one of the most remarkable wild flowers in this area.
Wild life consisted of four toads, a few squirrels, and many birds - including a wild turkey. Gnats were also plentiful, but that was the worst part of the trip. Well, not finding the cache wasn't so fun either.
After verifying with the cache owner it appears that the cache was either washed/blown over the bluff, or a muggle found and stole it. If the later is the case I can only wish that the weight of it caused them severe cramps.
Even thought it was a long hike with some parts being difficult, it was a very enjoyable trip, one that won't be forgotten.
